Depth of Your Love

image

Father God,
You’ve done this incredible thing!
I was your idea
You were my King

You knew what would happen
All the pain and the strife
But instead of leaving me
You made me Your wife

The scraps of my foolishness
You turned into light
Taking every wrong thing
And making it right

It wouldn’t be easy for You
To have me
You wrote the story
You knew what would be

You kept Your Word
You followed through
You were faithful to me
Though I wasn’t to You

You gave me a choice
You gave me the Truth
I chose my own ways
I needed more proof

Your patience with me
Showed the depth of Your love
Waiting for me to
Look up above

You knew that I would
You knew what would be
You valued my life
You gave Yours for me

Your plan was amazing
I could never know
The price You would pay
The line You would toe

I could never repay
What You did for me
Lord, You are wonderful
Lord, You love me!

You are my Father
I am Your child
Because of Your Baby
So tender and mild

You took human form
To save me from hell
The wages of sin
You knew very well

Thank You Lord Jesus
My Lord and my King
Forever to You
Sweet praises I sing!

“Where Are You, Santa, In The Bible?”

image“HO-HO!! You be gettin’ NOTHIN’ for Christmas this year!!” ;))

Seriously- what a silly question- “Where are you, Santa, in the Bible?”! As though not being named in the Bible invalidates the person or concept as Christian. Neither are St. Ambrose, St. Anthony, St. Augustine, or countless other Christians listed in the Bible Whose writings concluded around the 1st century. Of course the modern-day image of Santa Claus does not appear, but we can be confident that St. Nicholas whose charitable Christian ways propelled the evolving cheerful giving image of Santa was indeed a Christian. Born in the 3rd century in what is now Turkey, Nicholas followed Christ from the youngest age, obeying Jesus’ words to “sell what you own and give the money to the poor,” and used his entire inheritance from parents’ epidemic deaths to assist the needy and the sick. He was made Bishop and became known for his generosity and his love for children.

For most of my own parenting years, I honestly haven’t been a big “Santa” fan as I’ve felt it shifts the focus off Jesus Christ, but truth is- the big jolly guy actually REFLECTS our Lord in his boundless generosity and love for his children! “Where are you, Santa, in the Bible?” …Why, in the heart of Christ, of course!!

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” – Matthew 7:11
