The Skinny

Claiming Victory over Darkness


“Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong”.1 Corinthians 16:13 (NLT)

Okay.  God guided me out of darkness, showed me I was not alone, and gave me courage to tell my story, allowing me to live in the light again.  It’s finished.

The end?

Not quite.  Many Christians have an unrealistic expectation that once they have been brought through a difficult situation, they are completely healed and they can move on with their lives,  only to be blindsided when they find themselves back in the dark.

It’s not the end…it’s only the beginning.

God never puts our life back together the way it was.  He always gives us a new improved, better life. God can light our path, but if we do nothing to change, we will slide right back into the dark.  Transformation occurs when we do what it takes…

Platform of Praise

In memory of beautiful Baby Sawyer Parkison who would have been celebrating his first birthday today, in honor of his faithful loving parents Chris and Hannah, this post is re-blogged and dedicated on this very special day.

Six months ago today, a friend’s beautiful young daughter and husband lost their precious newborn son, a micro-preemie baby who captured the attention of so many in his brief appearance on earth. He was “Baby Sawyer.”  The tiny little soldier fought so hard for 30 days, when his energy finally ran out and he said goodbye to his family, friends, and countless strangers who had fallen in prayerful love with him.

I wonder how many of us would be praising God through such a journey.  Sawyer’s mom and dad did, from the day he was born at just under 6 months to the day he said goodbye, one month later, to the present day.  Hannah and Chris’s faithful updates were laced with praise to God throughout the unimaginably long days of turbulent uncertainty.  Amidst the darkest of doctors’ reports, the Light of their faith and praise shined through as they…
