The Blessing of Trials

imageToday I am thinking about our trials in life and how God can bring amazing blessings to us through them. In fact, for children of God in Christ Jesus, He promises to bless us and glorify Himself through every single one of them (Rom 8:28). No, not even ONE of our trials is in vain when we trust in Him! Knowing God’s promise to us, is there any other way to respond to our trials than with gratitude?….. even Joy? {James 1:2-4}. Yes it sounds crazy, but if we truly trust in God, then we trust that whatever struggle is coming our way is for a Good reason which we may not know, and God will do something amazing with it in our lives and for His Kingdom purpose!

Our adult Bible study is in the middle of Beth Moore’s Daniel and it is amazing. We just left the fiery furnace that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego walked through unscathed with Christ at their side, and we are reminded of this: That God is with us through every fiery trial of our lives. In fact, faithful friends, He in one way or another delivers us every time! Moore points out 3 ways He does this and how our faith is affected by each: 1) God delivers us FROM the fire (like He did Daniel’s friends from the physical furnace), which BUILDS our faith, 2) God delivers us THROUGH the fire, (oh to have to go through that tunnel!) which REFINES our faith, or 3) God delivers us BY the fire (death) which PERFECTS our faith. Know this- that as the trial comes your way, The Lord God Almighty is right there with you and though you fear you may not be able to handle it, the God Who has power over everything can! Trust in Him. Be still and know He is God.

Choosing To Walk In the Spirit

imageFamily of God in Christ: Reading this morning’s devotional about living in the Spirit led me to Romans 8:1-17. After reading these verses again, I am amazed that God has given us this incredible gift of free will. Indeed in Christ we are controlled by the Spirit of the Living God! …But we can choose to submit our minds and bodies to His Spirit or we can live according to the flesh,.. yes? Even as Christians, we sometimes make self-driven, not God-driven choices. God has given us this indescribable gift of freedom in Christ, so why would we EVER choose another way? Out of the mind controlled by the Spirit comes life and peace! But out of the mind controlled by the sin nature comes death.

Abba, Father! I pray that you would help and empower your children to walk in Your Way, the Way of Your Spirit, the Way of Truth and to reject all things that come from the sin nature. For Christ suffered and died to set us free from bondage to that nature that brings death! You gave it all for us, Lord; Help us each day to set our minds not on our own desires, but on the desires of Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
