Bright and Morning Star

image“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”- Ps 143:8

Family in Christ Jesus,

Ah…how beautiful are the words from David’s lips to His King! Yes, let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, Lord!

I have always tried to meet with the Lord in the morning, though in some seasons of life it has been more difficult than others (new baby, work, etc.). I just think what a perfect time to meet with God… as soon as He awakens me to another day of my limited earthly life! Before any event of the day begins, while others are sleeping and not even traffic can be heard, just a few birds chirping. God blessed me with another day of life… I thank and praise Him! I draw to Him and seek His Word, His guidance and wisdom for my day, as I know not what lies ahead, but I know Who is with me. Why would I start my day without the One Who has given it to me?  A friend once told me, “Nan, starting your day without the Lord is like going onstage to play a concert and not having tuned your instrument!” Ugh!! Who would want to hear that?! No doubt, there have been days that in my dissonant words/behavior, my family and friends must have wondered, “What on earth is she playing?!” Ha! Well, could you wait just a moment while I go tune myself up?? …oh, no time now,..have to get to the next song! Yep, if we don’t put God first, we sometimes don’t put Him at all, do we? Like when I neglect to give Him the first-fruits of our income, and He ends up with the scraps after all the bills have been paid and shopping trips made. He deserves FIRST place, not anything less! (Can anyone hear me talking to myself here?)

Anyway, I just thought this Psalm was so beautiful, as it reminds me that this Relationship between me and God is powered and sustained by HIS unfailing Love, not mine! That even if I fail to give Him first place in my life, He has put me first place in His heart…. The Blood Christ shed for me proves that! “We love because He first loved us.”-1 John 4:19. And to think that He waits for me every morning, anticipating my first thought towards Him, makes me desire Him even more. Does this sound like a Love Relationship? You bet it is! You, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, know exactly what I am talking about. Is it any wonder Jesus Christ is called our “bright and Morning Star”? Good morning, Lord, Good morning!

Sleepless Night

imageIt was one of those nights I woke up in wee hours wondering what on earth I could do about a problem that seemed unfixable. Yes, I tossed and turned for who knows how long contemplating the many facets of the issue and what I needed to do about each (is that even mentally possible at 3 a.m.?). ..okay can anyone relate? …women more likely, as men sleep like logs don’t they? :))

Anyway, I finally prayed, “God put me to sleep!,.. No not eternal!” Which you see He respected haha. So I awaken a few hours later, now asking The Lord what to do… (Hmm maybe should have asked Him in the first place? Instead I opted for asking all-knowing, blanket-twisting almighty Nan! ugh why I do this to myself!) So My wonderful Father in heaven this morning whispers this brilliant idea into my ear…”Leave it to ME!” Really, Lord, but can I trust You with it? (Did I really just say that?). “Yes you can!,” He replies.  “In fact, the more you let go and really trust in Me, the better chance you will experience peace and get more sleep too! How about that?!”  Well, I guess that sounds good, Lord!  Yep, that sounds really good.

The Rock Upon Which I Stand

imageFamily in Christ– Ever feel wobbly in faith from the worries of the world? Remember what is under your feet! WHO! The ROCK of Salvation! Our great God Who never trembles or tires, but steadfastly holds His children up strong! You are standing on the Rock of Christ with the power of God beneath you… You cannot fall placing your trust in Him!!! So do not worry or wobble… Your troubles are in His capable Hands!:
“My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” -Psalm 62:1-2
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” -Isaiah 41:10

Being Filled With The Right Thing

imageHave you ever tried to moderate something in your life, when really it needs to be obliterated? Some of us may think of our daily infusion of Coke or coffee, cigarettes, sweets… For others, alcohol, drugs, sex/porn may come to mind. Whatever it is, we can’t seem to “moderate” it; even a little of it in our veins seduces us all over again. I myself have naively said in the past, “Everything in moderation!!” In reality that does not always work. We are human beings, in need of being filled! …So what are we filling ourselves with? Is it truly benefiting us, or does it just feel good? Lets be honest here… not everything that feels good is good for us… in fact it can be destroying us until we wake up to its destructive power over us. We may even justify with, “We’ll this isn’t hurting anybody….,” when in truth, in our limited human vision we just don’t see that it really is. I myself struggled with something for years, and until I got rid of it COMPLETELY from my life, it still had its claws of power imbedded in me. I praise God Almighty for freeing me! Only Jesus had the power to do win a battle I couldn’t.

May I encourage you today that if you are struggling with something controlling you, to get the help that you need. Make the personal choice to let go of it COMPLETELY. Moderation is just away of keeping a harmful thing in you. If you need professional help, get it, and from a reputable source. ~~I have to say that I personally believe that at the core of every addictive battle is a spiritual one. In my case, it was only by acknowledging the spiritual core of the issue that I was able to be set free from it. I needed more than earthly tools to overcome, I needed the supernatural power of God Almighty, which He joyfully gave to me!

Some of you need to understand this as well… that at the heart of your physical/mental/emotional battle is a spiritual one… that there is an Enemy out there who prowls around like a lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Satan delights in your struggle, he feeds your addictive behavior. He is a thief and he comes to steal, kill and destroy your life (John 10:10a). Until you acknowledge this, you may always feel the tinge of his claws in your skin.

I pray that you come to know the great love of God for you in Christ Jesus, and that His Power is greater than any earthly power over you! Jesus came that you would have life, and life to the FULL! (John10:10b). Fill yourself with Christ and know what true life is (1 John 5:20)!

Making a Wrong Turn

imageBrothers and Sisters in Christ,

Have you ever made a wrong turn on the way to your destination and wondered if you’d ever find your way back? No- this is not a Guys-only question, girls! I did it just a couple days ago in a town I was unfamiliar with, and upon realizing my mistake, I developed a whole new language and disposition on life. ..Ughh! How fast that can happen for me! Worse yet, my young son was sitting next to me, so yes, he got to hear all the colors of the rainbow as I struggled to find my way back to the right road. I don’t know how many miles I drove on that long, wrong road, but it seemed like forever before I found the right road home.

I was thinking this morning about how that “detour” I took was a diversion off more than just the road I was on. When I realized I was not on the right road, I chose for myself a path of frustration, anger and self-dependence to carry me. Can anyone relate?? Did I forget that my Lord was right there with me the whole time, just waiting for my eyes to turn to Him? Waiting, waiting… Did I really think I was on my own trying to find my way back? Well I wasn’t. My Lord was right there with me getting a full dose of my newfound attitude while I tried to figure it out on my own.

You’ve heard the expression, “Keep your eyes on the prize!” That’s actually very Biblical, isn’t it? 1Cor 9:24-27 says, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” Well on Wednesday, I was running aimlessly. I absolutely felt like a boxer beating the air!! Why?? Not because I took my tires off the path home, NO– because I took my eyes off the Prize!!! I did not trust that my Lord would steer me back to the way home. Well, in His Gracious Love, He did anyway,… But it took a lot longer than if I would have taken a deep breath, exhaled a prayer and gone to Him in the first place!

So this morning I have been praying for self-control…Go figure. 1 Peter 5:8-9a says, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith…” Lack of self-control turns the knob of the door open for Satan to enter the scene, and you can be sure the result will be bad. Self-control is not self-explanatory… It is a fruit of the Spirit of the Living God! (Gal 5:22-23). Ask for it- you will receive it! (Matt 7:7)

My long ride home also reminded me of the most beautiful truth: that my Daddy stands waiting with arms open wide at ALL TIMES for me to run to back to Him!!! If I do forsake His teaching not to veer to the right or left, but to keep my eyes affixed upon His Son (Heb 12:12), He has mercy on me in His infinite, unfailing Love, and He patiently waits for my return (prodigal daughter!). He never takes His eyes off me, always yearning for mine to connect with His to bring me safely home. Thank You, Abba, Father!!! I love you, Daddy!!!!

Divine Humility

imageHello dear friends in Christ!

This morning, God’s amazing Grace has been on my heart. I have been thinking about how I sometimes judge others. Do you ever see someone’s behavior or hear their words and find yourself thinking ill of them? I am just being honest here… Well The Lord gently reminds me again and again and again that it is by HIS GRACE ALONE that I am saved from the pit of hell- the wages for my own sin!  Why is it easier to see others’ faults and not my own? Maybe because I am not always looking in the mirror!! ;). From God’s vantage-point, we are all the same- sinners in desperate need of His Saving Grace. Once you and I were lost…. remember? Our good works come from God’s preparation for us, not from ourselves lest we should boast and get the glory and praise (don’t I love it!).

Let’s be reminded the next time we are tempted to look down on someone (temptation will be with us until we leave this life)… First, they were made by God’s hand and in His image, second He loves them as much as you and I and suffered and died for them because He wants to be with them forever and wants the glory, and third they are just a picture of you and me without Christ! It is through Christ that we walk in God’s Love. It is because He first loved us that we love at all. Show mercy and walk humbly with God. Love others, even the most reprehensible, because God loved you and showed you mercy. To those hammering his hands and feet to the cross, Jesus said, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do!” Thank God for His forgiveness to you and show it to others with His Power which can do all things. May all that we do be for the glory of God!

Cleansing Blood

imageSitting on the porch watching the rain falling down made me think of how God determinedly washes our sins away. Like a child who has fallen down in the mud, our Father gently takes our hand, props us up, and washes every bit of dirt off of us…. There you go!, like brand new!! ….but not without a Price. It took the torturesome death of His Only Son- precious to God’s heart- to accomplish this goal. Unlike mud, sin requires a bath of blood to be washed away. Not just any blood- the Blood of a Perfect One. Only the sinless blood of Jesus could meet God’s requirements to save you. Hear This! – For the JOY set before Him, Jesus Christ endured the cross …You ask, “What joy?”……that joy is YOU!!! YOU are God’s joy! You who believe on the Name of Christ Jesus, God’s One and Only Son, that He gave His life for you! Can you fathom a greater Love than this? Know that YOU are infinitely loved by God! {Rom 8:38-39}.
